Connecting your charge point to Wattify

The OCPP address of Wattify, the settings per brand (Zaptec, Smappee, Wallbox, Alfen, EVBox) and how to see that the connection works.

Wattify talks to your charge point through the OCPP protocol (version 1.6). As soon as your charge point knows the address of Wattify, it signs in and appears as online in the portal. This article gives the address and the steps per brand.

What you need beforehand

  • The serial number (also called Device ID or identity) of the charge point. It is printed on the charge point itself or shown in the manufacturer's app.
  • The charge point must already exist in the portal under Charge points, with exactly the same serial number as its name. If you registered the charge point through the wizard, this has already been done. If not: see Viewing and editing a charge point.
  • A working internet connection for the charge point: wifi, 4G or a network cable.

The address of Wattify

Some brands add the serial number to the address themselves (with Zaptec you type it literally that way, see below). Mind the capitals: the address is case-sensitive.

Zaptec

  1. Sign in at portal.zaptec.com.
  2. Open the installation the charge point belongs to. Several charge points at the same location are configured in one go through that installation.
  3. Go to Settings → Authentication and choose the option OCPP-J 1.6.
  4. Enter as address, literally: wss://cpo.wattify.be/ocpp/{deviceId}. Leave the braces in place: every charge point fills in its own serial number there.
  5. Save. Within a minute a heartbeat appears with the charge point in the portal.

Are you charging your Zaptec Pro on a 230 V grid (IT or TT grid) and do you want to use three phases? Then set Max phases to 3 for the charge point in the Zaptec portal. First check whether your car supports three-phase charging on such a grid; at this moment that is certainly the case for Tesla and Polestar.

Smappee

  1. Sign in at dashboard.smappee.net.
  2. Choose EV Line on the left and select your charging station.
  3. Open the configuration screen, click services and then the pencil next to activation method for charging sessions.
  4. Tick: Authenticated charging, Swipe and charge (RFID tags), Public charging and Other CPO platform.
  5. Enter as the address of the charging station management system: wss://cpo.wattify.be/ocpp/
  6. Save.

Two points of attention:

  • Do not use Smappee's own whitelist at the same time: charging sessions that Smappee approves itself never reach the Wattify platform.
  • Smappee serial numbers start with a 6. In the portal the charge point is called SMP_ followed by that serial number, for example SMP_6100001234.

Wallbox

  1. Sign in at my.wallbox.com and choose Chargers on the left.
  2. Look up your charge point, click the menu with the three dots and then settings.
  3. Check at the top right that OCPP is active.
  4. Click edit: the identity of the charge point must be exactly the serial number, and you leave the password field empty.
  5. Save. After a few moments you see a heartbeat in the portal.

Alfen

On site, with the ACE Service Installer (a Windows program, downloadable from the Alfen website):

  1. Open the Connectivity tab.
  2. Choose a preset from the Back office preset list, or enter it yourself: ws://cpo.wattify.be/ocpp
  3. Make sure the identifier of the charge point is the same as the name in the portal.
  4. Choose the connection method and OCPP version 1.6J.
  5. Click Save and restart the station.

Remotely, through the charge point's current back office system: change the connection settings there. Only restart the charge point once all settings have been changed, otherwise it goes offline. A charge point that connects with a SIM card from the previous operator has to be given another SIM card on site.

EVBox

Models with app access (Elvi, BusinessLine Gen4, Iqon):

  1. Open the EVBox Connect app, choose Start pairing and make a Bluetooth connection with the charge point.
  2. Go to Charging Management Platform.
  3. Choose Different Backend URL and enter: ws://cpo.wattify.be/ocpp/
  4. Save.

Models without app access (G3 and G4): note the serial number and email EVBox After Sales Support at service@evaftersales.com asking them to update the firmware and to set the OCPP address to ws://cpo.wattify.be/ocpp/.

Another brand

Every charge point that supports OCPP 1.6-J works with Wattify. You enter the address through the manufacturer's app, portal or installer menu. If you cannot find the setting, send the brand and model to support@wattify.be.

Checking that the connection works

Open Charge points in the portal. For a connected charge point the Connectivity column says Online, and on the detail page you see a recent Latest heartbeat. If the charge point stays offline:

  • Compare the serial number in the portal letter by letter with what you set at the manufacturer, capitals included.
  • Check the internet connection of the charge point (wifi range, SIM card, cable).
  • Try the secure address (wss://) if you used the unsecured one, or the other way round.

Connecting securely or unsecured

With a secure connection (WSS) the charge point encrypts the traffic and verifies that it is really talking to Wattify. For that, the software of the charge point has to know recent root certificates; with older firmware the secure connection therefore sometimes fails. In that case choose the unsecured address temporarily and ask the manufacturer for a firmware update: since EU regulation 2022/30 encrypted communication is the minimum standard, and new installations should always connect through wss://.
